Anna Boenish Headshot (1)

Hello! I’m Anna Boenish – a 28 year old queer quilter living in Seattle. This site is a place where I share my creations and creative process.

My quilting style features a hand sewing technique called English Paper Piecing, which gives me the ability to construct intricate geometric shapes. An additional perk of the technique is that its portable nature allows me to sew outdoors. The majority of my work is sewn and quilted by hand.

I share my creative process on the blog section of this website, as well as on Instagram at @quiltingqueerly. Thanks for stopping by!

    Hi,
I’m doing Sherri Lynn’s improv thing too. And now I’m intimidated, because your work is amazing! I want to ask what score you got, but perhaps I better not.
I tried to follow your blog with my RSS reader, but it seems like that is not possible (when I try to subscribe, I can only subscribe to comments on your blog). Anyway, I’m signed up by email for now.

    • Wow, thank you for your kind comment! I just checked out your blog – your bow tie squares are stunning! It seems like you have a natural knack for color and I’m impressed by your hand quilting. I’m also a huge fan of Austin Kleon and thoroughly enjoyed your handwritten artist statement. I think Sherri Lynn is pretty big on people not sharing anything about what they’re working on for the book until the quilts have been submitted, but I’m taking pictures along the way and will happily share what I’ve been working on once she gives the go ahead :) I hope you’re having a blast working on the quilt score she assigned you and I look forward to seeing what you make! Hmmmm… I’m not sure what the issue is with the RSS reader, since I’m so new to the blogging thing. However, if I figure it out, I’ll let you know!

  3. Anna,

You may or not remember me — I lived in Sequim from 2000-2002 and was close with the Lange’s. I stumbled upon your blog while looking around on Instagram. I’ve been working towards a master’s degree in architecture at Virginia Tech for the last three years, and as a student of architecture I was naturally struck by your quilting designs and the way you’ve integrated them into fashion. I only found your blog about 15 minutes ago so I haven’t been able to spend a ton of time with it, but thus far, I’m highly impressed. Keep up the good work!

    • Bryce!! What a treat to hear from you! Of COURSE I remember you! You continue to stand out in my memory as someone who deeply loved basketball and was a talented artist. I still remember some of your pencil drawings from Mrs. Rudersdorf’s middle school art class. How fabulous to hear that you’re studying architecture – it seems like it’d be a natural fit. I would love to see some of your work sometime. I’m so happy to hear you stumbled upon the blog. Great to hear from you after over a decade :) Anna B.

I’m a SEAMQG member. Love your take on English paper piecing. I also follow you on Instagram. Would you ever be interested in speaking about your quilting to a guild on the East side? I think several people would enjoy your work. I know I do! Drop me an email and I will put you in touch with our speaker chair.

    • Hi Jean! Thank you so for your kind words. I’m happy to hear you found this blog! I’m finally jumping back on the blogging train :) I would love to speak at a guild on the East Side – thank you for the invite. I’ll shoot you an email to talk more about the possibility. Anna B.

I am totally enamored!! Love your style and now must find a way to follow you. :)

    • Why thank you! If you scroll all the way down to the bottom of the home page, there should be spot to enter your email address to follow the blog. If that doesn’t work, let me know and we can troubleshoot :) Anna B.
